As fun as this is (& I very much support the concept), the use of "the last frontier" to describe Alaska is a colonialist term that dismisses indigenous cultures. Which of course goes against so many of the core social themes of Star Trek, particularly the Prime Directive of TNG.

The phrase is an easy tie-in to "The Final Frontier" of the show which I feel was used inherently differently where exploration was done specially with respect to ingenious cultures "to improve [&] enrich yourself"(S1E25), not for colonization or oppression; But "the last frontier" shouldn't be part of the project, either in marketing or on the plaque.

Appreciate the perspective, Mikko. I admit I hadn't thought of that angle of the motto. While I see how it's very much from the perspective of Western colonizers, I don't quite see how the phrase is inherently oppressive. Do you have resources you can direct us towards regarding that?

Great presentation -- tying it in to Alaska's burgeoning space industry is a smart move. Have you talked to any aerospace contractors about possible funding? Or UAF?

What has been the city's response regarding the stewardship?

The Department of Parks & Rec were very receptive about the project and requested us to put together the PDF presentation in the post. They said they have to share it with others at the city. We are anxiously awaiting further news from them. We are hoping to get the statue location secured at the Valdez Civic Center & Ruth Pond Park area.

I have a plan for reaching out to Alaska's space industry and UAF (technically part of the industry), but we need to have more of a solid plan before that begins.

I can't list the names yet, but we do have a growing number of people and companies that are interested in donating towards the project. We'r…
